My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy
            I have worked asan English teacher for years. I decided to choose this subject because I like English. I expect to share something I like to the others. I hope I would have contribution in develop my country as a teacher. I have been teaching for 10 years. I had taught in a vocational school, international school, junior high school, and primary school.I got many experiences in teaching career. Based my experiences, teaching is always fun and offer the joys in developing teaching skills. Sometimes as a teacher I face not only learning problem but also the psychological problem. Learning problem is related to building student English proficiency. The psychological one related to lack motivation, confidence, and other personal problems. I also need to encourage the students to speak up, to express their idea, and share it to their peer. I always force them to believe to their self and do their best. Those issues influence me as a teacher.  I concern on student- teacher emotional connection, learning facilitator, and student critical thinking.
            There is no significant learning without significant relationship. The students’ motivation is related to what they fell about the teacher. There are many researches about it. Teachers play an important role in the trajectory of students throughout the formal schooling experience (Baker, Grant, &Morlock, 2008). Although most research regarding teacher-student relationships investigate the elementary years of schooling, teachers have the unique opportunity to support students’ academic and social development at all levels of schooling (Baker et al., 2008). Although many studies focus on the importance of early teacher-student relationships, some studies have found that teacher-student relationships are important in transition years; the years when students transition from elementary to middle school or middle to high school (Alexander et al., 1997; Based on that investigation, the good relation among teacher and students is very necessary. When they like the teacher, they will like the subject which she/she teaches. Students come to the class bring their own problem and characters. As a teacher, we must understand and give our empathy. We have to get their trust. In one condition we can be their teacher, their friend, their parent.  If the students feel comfortable, they will be motivated to study. All students can learn when they are accepted as their self in supporting environment. Effective learning requires collaboration between teacher and students in mutual respect and trust. This collaboration will make a good environment to learning. The students will do everything whatever teacher asks them. They know the teacher will always support and guiding them.
            I believe that my task as a teacher is to facilitate my studentsin getting their maximum capabilities. By using the appropriate method, the students can explore their ability. Every student is very unique person. They have their own styles in learning. Some of them can be a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner. The teacher provide the curriculum and lesson plan to facilitate all the learning style. It will make the students feel comfortable about the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The learning process will become  interesting experiences for the students.
            The teacher has to promote the critical thinking skill among the students. Katie Hart, Professional Educator says “One way we try to foster critical thinking skills in our classroom is by allowing our students to be creative and to inquire about topics that are of interest to them." Critical thinking happens when students analyze and evaluate evidence, arguments, claims and beliefs. They can then learn how to make judgments and decisions based on others' points of view, interpret information and draw conclusions by their owns. The teacher has to give opportunity to student in sharing and communicating their idea. If they think something is not really suitable or fix with them, they can argue in accepting way. They can discuss, present, and communicate their idea, whether individual or in a team tasks.
In my teaching career I keep my philosophy. My philosophy is dealing with developing emotional bounding. Teacher and students have to involve in good connection.  Teacher has to be agent to provide the opportunity for learning experiences. So, the students will reach their maximum capacity. The teacher also gives the opportunity for student to sharetheir ideas and involve in a group.
